Summer Dayz…..

AF6333EF-0FB9-4F2F-A4D7-97150ACB552FWe are enjoying a second week at the beach….last week with friends and this week with our kiddos….our older daughter Kalyn and husband Alex and our wonderful grandaughter Lilly, and Taryn and her boyfriend Nate are all with us this week.  We are at one of our family favorite places, Bald Head Island, NC… is about two nautical miles off of the southern most coast of North Carolina off of the Cape Fear River.  You take a passenger ferry over and once you are here, your transportation for the week is a golf cart, bike or on foot.  No cars are allowed on the island which makes for a slower pace when you are here…..the locals call it “Turtle Time”.  This beautiful, pristine and uncrowned place is very special to our family.  We have been coming here for years after we had purchased a property in St. James Plantation around 2003.  We wished we had found this place first!  It is mostly a summer place with only around 200 year round residents.  But to our family, it is still a magical place.  There is really not much to do and I am amazed that our girls keep wanting to come back and share this place with the special men in their lives.

It was perfect timing with the sale our house. We closed on the sale and left the very next day for two plus weeks at the beach.  Even though I never saw the beach until after my freshman year of college, the beach holds a special place in my heart.  I married a West Coast guy who grew up at the beach and my daughters were both born in San Diego.  I guess I’m the only one without salt water in my veins.  But what I do feel is how great and powerful our God is and how much he cares for all of the details our our lives….like the grains of sand at the beach, it all matters to him.  I’m feeling extremely grateful and blessed to enjoy this respite, especially after a big move.

I’m also reminded that one of the blessing of selling our home is that it will be easier to spend time with our granddaughter.  We were only a little over eight miles away, but when it came to babysitting, it seemed liked a long way to travel for our kids.  We have sure loved our time with all of our family this week.

I’m looking forward to all of the blessings I have yet to discover in this downsizing journey.  Just enjoying the “turtle time” this week and celebrating how great and powerful is our God.
